the life of a novice online poker player
The next 3 games, and probably my lot for the day….

So the first one went well (a $5/45), i put my QQ into AA, that was that then…*sighs*  I told you it was a tough road, the highs are great and the lows are very very boring!!

At this point,  with the anticipation of having to write a blog about how im really good at losing at poker - i tighten my game up and switch on a bit.  “I WILL REPORT GOOD NEWS” im saying to myself.

Then…the second one (a $10/45), goes pretty much the same way, i run my so called monster into a flopped straight…..*sighs much louder*

and the third one….has a few notable hands.  I look down at AA, some guys rasies, i 3 bet, he 4 bets (i know, he should shove as its not so deep), i 5 bet shove…im pretty sure hes got KK…..and low and behold he flips KK.  I bink an ace on the flop so there is my early double up.  Right time to push people around a bit, prey on the weak, avoid the nits…..(or raise the hell out of them if theyre proper nitty, fold is all i want to see).  That goes well for a while, my 1500 starting stack is 2800 for quite a while, picking up a few pots, passing a few blinds….as one does!

By the way my username is “The Dozza”, not sure i mentioned that before, if you want to play on FullTilt and youre not registered already give me a shout, ill point you in the right direction to get the best deals.  Also if you just want to rail me then feel free, pop by and say HI…

So my 2800 becomes 7200 from taking on some small stacks with ok hands, they hold and im now on almost average chips for the Final Table.  Sit tight son, sit tight! :)

I hit the final table with 7000, average is 7500, so thats ok.  I generally tighten up a bit as soon as we hit the FT because the shortstacks start getting silly and shoving their chips about.  Which they duly oblige! Down to 8 left after 1 hand on the FT.

I look down at KK, 3 hands into the FT, some guy shoves 5000 chips, i shove my 6000, he flips AQ and of course rivers the ace.  Game over, no cash, no nothing.  I join the rest of the donks.  I even took a screen capture for you to enjoy….

Now im going to leave it there………

until next time!

Moaning already……bad beat heaven :)

Ok so I switch my pc on, load up FT, I dont have loads of time (I know this isnt a good basis to start playing but hey ho, sht happens).  I jump in a $10 45 runner, a $5 45 runner, a $3 90 runner and a $6 90 runner.  And im out of all 4 within 20 minutes. Haha.  I have to say losing with AA to K7 suited wasnt pleasant (ok its a badbeat story), but this kind of thing happens alot so you get used to it, having AA preflop doesnt guarantee your going to be ahead when all the cards are dealt….AND DONT I KNOW IT!

I lost the other 3 with JJ v AK, TT v AK and AQ to 77, oh i hit my ace alright, unfortunately he binked a 7……you may be saying that im a loose donk by getting them in early with TT and JJ but hey, im here to win and if i can push those small edges often then im going to be ok in the long run, if i double im sat with a stack to push people around, if i lose then so be it.  I do play pretty aggressively and id much rather win 1 than minimum cash 10.  All tournys and SNGs are so top heavy you have to go for 1st place……thats at least what i tell myself!

Ive jumped in 3 more 45 runners and hopefully will report good news in my next blog….if not then ill tell you about the amazing ham sandwich i just got from jamie Olivers new place around the corner.  Boy that was a good sandwich!

So here it starts……

Ok so im new to blogging! I guess i should start with what my blog is going to be about and a little bit about my where im at….

My blog is a window into the world of a smalltime online poker player!

I started playing poker about 3 years ago, one christmas.  I didnt have a clue about rules or generally what the hell was going on, some say thats still the case but i beg to differ :)  I then played on the odd occasion untill something clicked, i sort of understood the rules and became fascinated with the fact you could win hands by bluffing, or by having the best cards or by any means whatsoever really.  As my interest grew i started to play pub poker in a league, this gave me a pretty good schooling of the rules and regs, some etiquette issues :0 and so on.  After a year of playing live in pubs i thought id give online poker a spin.  I deposited $100 on FullTilt (at the time i had no idea of rakeback and deposit bonuses etc, if you dont understand holla and ill explain!).  My $100 stayed about level for 1200 games, a few wins, nothing big, and a few losses, again nothing big then one day BINK.  I finished 3rd out of 2000 people and won a littlle over $4000. wow wow — FREE MONEY i was thinking.  My thought process then went wild with delusions of grandure, how i was going to be the next big thing…a prodigy! haha.  Little did i know.

So after withdrawing most of it and having a nice holiday and some new clothes, I kinda expected the next time I sat in a multi table tournament, that i would win it!! Of course I lasted about an hour and when i busted i wondered where it all went wrong?

Since then i have read books and viewed websites, blogs, training videos to try and further my knowledge base, the trouble is the more you learn, the more you realise that there is an infinite amount of information out there and i will probably never know enough till the day i die.

Ive had a few decent results over the last few years and carry a decent amount of profit along the way, this helps when you have a bad run and cash nothing for a month or so at a time, i can always tell myself “well youre still in profit so dont worry”, the fact i have invested thousands of hours deosnt come into it - i know it should but leave me be on that one!

So thats a bit of the background…….my blogs will probably be ramblings about bad beats, donks, “how the hell can you call that?”, general moans and hopefully you can share the odd win with me! Hopefully?

By the way i like the word BINK so dont worry if i use it all the time……..
